Photo credits

When a story has no photo of its own, Somerset Now shows a file photo behind the headline so the page is not bare. These are not photos of the stories. Each comes from Wikimedia Commons, and each is public domain or CC0, except the courthouse (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0) and Lake Cumberland (Creative Commons Attribution 4.0), which ask for the credit below and on each card that shows them. We resized them to 640 pixels, cropped the council chamber, saved smaller web copies, and softened the newspaper page slightly so it compresses; nothing else was changed.

Photos of a real place appear only on stories about that place. The rules we hold these photos to: no people's faces, no license plates, no police vehicles or uniforms, nothing that could pass for a real local incident, and no AI-made images. Arrest, charge and other crime stories without a photo, ours or regional, get the balance scale. Each story page names its photo under the picture.
