Terms of Use
Somerset Now is a local news site for Somerset and Pulaski County, Kentucky. Using the site, subscribing to the newsletter, or texting our tip and photo line means you agree to these terms. They are short on purpose.
What we publish
We publish items drawn from public records (agendas, minutes, official releases, state road data) and from tips and photos residents send us. Software screens items against our rules and publishes those that pass; tips and photos are read by a person before they appear, and a person reviews published items afterward and can remove any of them. Agendas describe what a public body will consider, not what it decided. Items labeled "unconfirmed" are exactly that. We correct errors in place and say so. We are not a substitute for official notices, and you should not rely on the site for emergency information; call 911 for emergencies.
Texting the tip line and photo line
- Texting us is voluntary and is the only way to opt in. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to end replies, HELP for help. We reply at most once per message you send and never send promotions.
- Do not text anything you would not want a journalist to read, and do not send anything you do not have the right to send. Tips about a person's private life, health, or legal trouble will not be published without an official record.
- Photos: by sending a photo you confirm you took it or hold the rights to it, and you give Somerset Now a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to publish it on somersetnow.com and our social accounts, with credit by your first name unless you tell us otherwise. You keep ownership. Tell us if you want a photo taken down and we will take it down.
- Do not send photos of people in private places, injured people, children without a parent's say-so, or anything taken while trespassing. We will not publish them.
What you send us
When you share a recipe, you confirm it is your own, or that the restaurant, church cookbook or college kitchen it comes from has said it may be shared on Somerset Now with credit. You keep any rights you have in it and give Somerset Now permission to publish it, with credit, on the site and in our newsletter. We may edit for length and clarity, and we may decline any recipe.
When you send a Road Watch report, you confirm it describes a place and a pattern you saw yourself, and that any photo is yours and shows no people and no readable license plate. Do not use the form to accuse, name or describe a particular person or vehicle. A report to Somerset Now is not a report to the police; for an emergency, call 911.
Your use of the site
You may read, share, and link to anything here. Please do not copy whole articles onto other sites, scrape the site with automated tools, or use it to harass anyone. Public documents we link to belong to the agencies that produced them.
Sponsorships and advertising
Businesses buy sponsorships and ad placements from Somerset Now LLC by agreement. We invoice in advance for each week or month; invoices are due on receipt and may be paid by check or by card through Stripe. Sponsored content is always labeled. We may decline or remove an ad that is misleading, unlawful or against our standards; if we remove one, we refund the unused part. A sponsor may cancel before the next billing period. Placements that have already run are not refunded; a prepaid period that has not started is refunded in full. Questions, cancellations and refund requests: ads@somersetnow.com or (606) 535-2002.
No warranties, limited liability
The site is provided as is. We work to get things right and we correct what we get wrong, but we cannot promise the site is error-free or always available. To the extent Kentucky law allows, Somerset Now is not liable for losses arising from use of the site or from reliance on anything on it.
Corrections and complaints
If we published something about you that is wrong, tell us. Message the Somerset Now Facebook Page or email privacy@somersetnow.com, or write to Somerset Now, P.O. Box 26, Somerset, KY 42502. We will respond and, where warranted, publish a correction with the same prominence as the original.
Changes and law
We may update these terms; the date above will change when we do. These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. See also our Privacy Policy.
